Contestants entered the fifth annual Young Filmmakers Contest from all over North America, including British Columbia, California, Kentucky, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Their assignment was to create an original short of five minutes or less centered around Jane Austen.

- Sonali Dev, author of Bollywood-style love stories named Best Books of the Year, including Pride, Prejudice, and Other Flavors, Recipe for Persuasion, and Incense and Sensibility
- Suzanne Allain, author of Mr. Malcolm’s List, adapted into a period drama film
- Ty Burr, former film critic for The Boston Globe and founder of Ty Burr's Watch List
