In July 2009, the bicentenary of Jane Austen’s arrival in Chawton on July 7, 1809, international scholars gathered in celebration at Chawton House Library for the conference “New Directions in Austen Studies,” hosted jointly by the University of Southampton and Chawton House Library. This special issue of Persuasions On-Line includes a selection of the papers presented at the conference.
