Thank you, Jane, for writing my all-time favorite book, "Persuasion." The beautifully-eloquent words of Captain Wentworth, "You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope," are the best words of love ever written.

Jane Austen's novels - and her championing of the novel genre - changed global literature. We at the 'Great House', Chawton House Library, are proud to play our part in protecting her legacy and exploring her influence, as well as promoting the writers who influenced her.

In remembrance of Jane whose clear-eyed assessment, sparkling wit and spunky courage have given this reader so many hours of satisfaction and delight.

Thank you, Dearest Jane, for all the laughs, tears, and romantic inclinations you have given me through the years. I owe you so much more than words can possibly convey.
Much love,
Chelsea

To quote Jane's immortal words:
"But for my own part, if a book is well-written I always find it too short."
Thank you for many hours of pleasure and for teaching me how to find joy in the routine, everyday things each of us do in our busy lives!
A couple of favourite quotes from Emma (also my daughter's name), which resonate to this day:
"Vanity working on a weak head produces every sort of mischief......"
"One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other."

Thank you for sharing your genius, not only with your family and friends, but with the reading public - and ultimately with the world- with me 200 years later.! Your legacy lives on through Elizabeth, Emma, Ann, Elinor and Marianne, Catherine, and Fanny. Your books, your own darling child, help me find my way in our chaotic world.

You inspired me to be a book collector and to cherish the written word. Re-reading Persuasion recently, I realized that I finally understand what regret feels like because Anne so perfectly expresses it for me. Thank you.

This Janeite came late to Austen, and I regret the years I've missed. Thank you, Jane, for your remarkable insight into our behavior and our relationships with one another. Your understanding of the human heart is extraordinary - thank you for changing my life.
