Jane Austen died on July 18, 1817, at the age of 41. We invite you to post a tribute in the Memorial Book in celebration of her life and work and in commemoration of the bicentenary of her death.

The Jane Austen Society of North America is dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of Jane Austen and her writing. JASNA is a nonprofit organization, staffed by volunteers, whose mission is to foster among the widest number of readers the study, appreciation, and understanding of Jane Austen’s works, her life, and her genius. We have over 5,000 members of all ages and from diverse walks of life. Although most live in the United States or Canada, we also have members in more than a dozen other countries.

Reading the six novels at various times in my life has shown me how wrong I can be. What seems to be is not what is. My judgement is so often "off." Thank you for these wonderful novels.

Dear Jane Austen, I have learnt so many lessons thanks to your writings and laugh so many times even through what can be sombre days. I hope I can honour your memory by helping people to know more about your life and your works. I guess you could not have imagine how you could influence so positively so many people around the world, who have been bonded in a community of frienship thanks to you.

I read Pride and Prejudice in college and it was love at first read. I immediately read her other novels and saw every film adaption of her work. Thank you, Jane Austen, for bringing so much joy into my life.

I'm truly grateful to have encountered Austen's novels in my early teens. Her well-drawn characters, witty language, and profound relationship insights greatly impacted my worldview growing up and enriched my life in ways too numerous to count. Decades later, she remains my favorite author, an inspiration for my writing, and a source of deep pleasure and entertainment.

I love to read both the novels and the criticism, including Persuasions, both online and in print. Re-reading the novels helps me feel calm and soothed. When I went through eight rounds of chemotherapy several years ago, I started one of the novels on my Kindle while getting chemo and would finish it as my body recovered. I think one of the best things you can say about someone is they make chemo more tolerable--Jane you helped me get through it.

Jane,
Like so many others, I have found in your books not only delight, but also a friend. A friend who penned the words that made me feel as though the world has a little more order and delicacy than it may actually have. I sink into your created universe with such pleasure. I read a subtle feminism between the lines. I celebrate your beautiful achievements page by page and word by word. Dear Jane, you are so loved, even 200 years after you left this realm.
