I have found solace in your words, and return to your works whenever I am in need of comfort. Your characters still ring true today, 200 years after you created them. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with the world.

Jane Austen has been an important part of my life since age 14, when first I read her "Pride and Prejudice"- My life has been enriched through reading her novels through yearly (and more often than that!), long membership in JASNA: National JASNA and JAS activites, journeys to England, serving in many capacities - but my two reading groups (Dayton, Ohio and Bay View, MI) covering over 19 years, have brought Austen into my life in a wonderful, personal way. What would we do without our Jane Austen? Or without our friends, met through JASNA and Jane Austen connections? Bless you all and LONG may this incredible genius, Jane Austen, continue to be part of our lives. Bless YOU, Jane Austen, and YOU ALL!

I can't begin to describe what your works mean to me. If only you could have gotten a glimpse of the lives you would touch.
    With much love and respect!

I was 16 and in the hospital when my parents brought me The Collected Works of Jane Austen. I began at Sense and Sensibility and read right through to Persuasion. I believe that Jane Austen and my parents' subscription to The New Yorker formed my taste in literature forever! Thank you Jane for over 60 years of happy reading! Jill Reville Hill, Canada, 2017

    Dearest Jane,
From age 10, when I began reading your novels, to now, you have remained in my life, first as a companion while I read the novels that were not to be put aside, then as a screen writer, having many movies to your credit and finally as an acting challenge whose life holds secrets and wit and joy. "ONLY a novel?… in short, only some work in which the greatest powers of the mind are displayed, in which the most thorough knowledge of human nature, the happiest delineation of its varieties, the liveliest effusions of wit and humour, are conveyed to the world in the best chosen language. " That is my Jane Austen!
    With profound admiration, Karen

In his 1816 review of Emma, Walter Scott said that the unidentified author was writing a new “class of fictions.” Her subjects “are finished up to nature, and with a precision which delights the reader.” He concluded, “In this class, she stands almost alone.” Scott was announcing the birth of the modern novel and Jane Austen as its progenitor. Two hundred years later, she continues to delight readers around the world.

    Dear Jane,
Congratulations on over 200 years of your wise and lovely words and stories that have inspired and entertained generation after generation of readers. Your wit and wry outlook are my constant companions, as useful now as they were in 1800. Your unstintingly correct and efficacious use of the English language is always my best example and model. My heart is uplifted and my behaviours made more compassionate with the polish of "a right way of thinking" that comes from an intimate acquaintance with your writing. I am grateful that I live in a time on this planet that includes the opportunity to know your writing!
